I agree hands are a portal into the nervous system, and a route calming. I always think that hands and fingers go offline when we are fight, flight or freeze (as, apart maybe from fists) we don't need our hands when fighting or fleeing a lion. So conversely, volunteering using the hands and fingers tells our system it is safe. Doing things that require hand-eye co-ordination I find is particularly helpful.
This was super interesting. (And I definitely needed the reminder that making things and keeping my hands busy is helpful during times of stress, so thank you for that, too.)
